The BC First Nations Justice Council, in partnership with the Law Foundation of BC, is hiring for the Community Legal Clinic as part of our Indigenous Justice Centre (IJC).
The Indigenous Justice Centre provides free legal services to Indigenous people for criminal and child protection matters. The Community Legal Clinic will provide all other legal services to all low-income people, Indigenous and non-Indigenous. We are thrilled to be able to provide this range of services through one coordinated office.
We are currently hiring for people who are passionate about providing high quality services :
The receptionist will be the first contact our clients have with our lawyers and staff. You are empathetic, wise and are known for having a way with people. You know how to engage with people who are in distress and are able to get information from them gracefully to determine how their needs can be met within the centre. You will be part of a strong, committed team of legal assistants, outreach workers, Gladue writers and lawyers.
We will have Elders onsite to support our clients, so experience and a high degree of comfort working with and supporting them is important. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment for Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients and your passion for bringing your culture and teachings to your work will be welcome.
We use Microsoft Office and Teams, and would like the person in this role to work with our communications staff on social media updates, so comfort with technology will be helpful.
Education in office administration is preferred but not required. First Nations, Metis and Inuit candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
