The mission of the Heiltsuk Gvi’las Restorative Justice Program is to build capacity and connectivity within the Heiltsuk community in ways that positively prevent and respond to conflict and harm. This is done through Heiltsuk value-based processes that engage Elders, adults, and youth.
HGCJP - Adult Program
Services include but are not limited to bail, probation and parole monitoring; a land-based isolation program; diversion and alternative measures programming; restorative justice circles; coordination of community work service; coordination and facilitation of culturally relevant healing plans; and ceremony.
HGCJP - Youth Program
Heiltsuk Gvi’ilas Community Justice Program assists with the monitoring of young offenders under the supervision of the Youth Probation office of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Additional services for youth include: extrajudicial sanctions and extrajudicial measures, diversion, restorative justice circles, healing circles, community work service, and ceremony. I
HGCJP - Community Justice Forums (Restorative Justice Circles)
Heiltsuk Gvi’las provides a safe, controlled environment in which an offender, victim and their families or supporters are brought together under the guidance of our Restorative Justice Committee, which includes heads of families, Elders, Hereditary Chiefs and key resource staff.
HGCJP - Criminal Courts Support
Heiltsuk Gvi’las works closely with the Native Courtworkers and Counselling Society of BC to help clients navigate the criminal courts and law, including assistance with criminal court applications and referrals to the appropriate agencies.
