General Information

Axis Family Resources Ltd. has been delivering addictions services to the Thompson Cariboo area of the Interior Health Authority Region since 2006 through our 1st Step program.

Programs and Services

1st Step Mobile Treatment

1st Step is a voluntary mobile treatment program offered to youth (ages 13 – 24) experiencing challenges with substance use throughout the Thompson – Cariboo region. This program consists of counselling and outreach services, utilizing a harm reduction approach that aims to ‘meet clients where they are in their readiness for change.’ Individualized goals are then determined on a case-by-case basis using a biopsychosocial treatment plan to address the physical, emotional, and social needs of an individual. Treatment services can include one-on-one counselling, substance use education, and relapse prevention.

Community-Based Withdrawal Management

The community-based withdrawal management program provides a holistic first step towards substance use recovery. Utilizing a person-centred approach to meet the specific needs of each patient in a safe, caring, culturally relevant, and non-judgmental environment. All services offered in the program are evidence-based and client-directed to focus on building strength and resiliency in the patient. Prior to completion of the program, facilitators will assist patients in exploring options for continued treatment. These include on-going substance use treatment and support, as well as mental health services and support.

Peace Program

The PEACE Program is an intervention and prevention program that addresses the needs of children and youth from homes where violence has occurred. The program is free of charge and delivered to children and youth age 3 to 18.

The goal of the program is to help break the cycle of intergenerational abuse by directly helping children exposed to violence in relationships. Group and individual counselling support is provided to both the youth and non-offending parents or caregivers. The youth are assisted in developing a safety plan which helps them to understand that they are not responsible for the violence.

Outreach Services for Women

Outreach Services for Women is provided in Williams Lake to women and their dependent children whose lives have been affected by violence and abuse, those who are thinking of leaving an abusive relationship, or to those who have already left and need help finding and using community supports. The program works to develop and deliver culturally-appropriate educational initiatives to raise awareness on the effects and prevention of violence against women.

The outreach services include counselling, assistance finding safe and affordable housing, transition house information, transportation and accompanying advocacy for medical emergencies, as well providing help accessing legal and social services.
