Alert Bay Community Justice Program is community-driven and centered around ensuring people feel supported through their experience in the judicial or justice system. The program facilitates the resolution of issues, promotes healing and responsible decision-making, and strengthens families and the community by providing responsive, effective and holistic services in a non-judgmental manner.
IJSP - Adult Program
Services include but are not limited to adult bail, probation and parole monitoring; adult diversion and alternative measures programming; restorative justice, healing & peacemaking circles; coordination of community work service; and facilitation of culturally relevant healing plans.
IJSP - Criminal Courts Support
Our Justice Worker will attend first appearance court with community members to help them navigate programs and services in court system (Native Courtworker, Duty Council, Legal Aid, Victims Services, etc.) This includes providing information on programs and services available outside the courtroom and within the community (i.e. Friendship Centre, Healthy Relationships, Salvation Army, counselling services, and more).
IJSP - Gladue Report Support
The Program will work with Gladue report writers when a community member (whether local or living outside the community) with any information pertinent to having a Gladue report prepared for the court.
