Nisga’a Lisims Government’s Access to Justice department works to involve every Nisga’a citizen in promoting safety by building on the strengths of individuals, families, and communities. We provide culturally appropriate alternative justice solutions and help Nisga’a communities effectively respond to youth and adult justice issues.
NAJD-NLG - Adult Program
Services include but are not limited to adult bail and probation monitoring (BC Corrections); adult diversion and alternative measures programming; restorative justice, healing & peacemaking circles; coordination of community work service; and facilitation of culturally relevant healing plans. Our program liaises between Nisga’a communities and the Canadian justice system and encourages the revival of traditional Nisga’a ways of resolving conflict. Nisga’a Access to Justice facilitates the release and reintegration of federal inmates by presenting advice and options to the Correctional Service of Canada.
NAJD-NLG - Youth Program
Nisga’a Access to Justice assists with the healing plans and monitoring of young offenders under the supervision of the Youth Probation office of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Additional services for youth include: extrajudicial sanctions and extrajudicial measures; restorative justice, peacemaking & healing circles; and supervision of community work service. In conjunction with our community partners, Nisga’a Access to Justice provides intervention and prevention programming & services to support youth and families.
