About Bridging Justice 2025
The BC First Nations Justice Strategy (the Strategy) provides a clear and comprehensive roadmap for transforming the justice system in BC. Developed jointly by the BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC), First Nations communities, and the Province of British Columbia, the Strategy is grounded in partnership and supports First Nations’ self-determination and improved outcomes for Indigenous peoples.
Respecting the independence of the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS), the Strategy sets shared goals for the BCPS, including:
2025 Event Theme – Supporting Indigenous Survivors
On December 3, we will bring together Crown Counsel, Indigenous Justice Council (IJC) staff, and community-based survivor and victim service providers to build relationships, celebrate strengths, identify gaps, and continue transforming the justice system for the better.
This gathering will focus on strengthening the connections between the Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan (IWJP), Dr. Kim Stanton’s report on Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and the work of Crown Counsel. Together, we will create space for shared understanding, collaboration, and collective action toward justice for Indigenous survivors.
We are honoured to announce that Dr. Kim Stanton will join the session to discuss her recent report, Systemic review of the legal system’s treatment of sexual and intimate partner violence – Province of British Columbia, and its recommendations. Dr. Stanton brings extensive experience in Aboriginal and constitutional law and gender-based violence, and her insights will guide meaningful discussion.
