General Information
The Daylu Dena Council Justice Program is based on a council approach with skilled coordination of the process. The council consists of Elders, youth and other members of the community. The criteria for admission into the justice program includes: victim, offender, family and community willingness to participate; the offender’s acceptance of his or her responsibility; the availability of resources to deal with the matter; and the assurance that harmony will be restored back into the community. The justice program is designed to bring more responsibility to individuals, family and community. The process fosters a gradual awakening of individuals, family and community.
Programs and Services
DDCJP - Adult Program
Services include but are not limited to bail and probation monitoring; diversion and alternative measures programming, restorative justice circles, coordination of community work service; and facilitation of culturally relevant healing plans.
DDCJP - Youth Program
Daylu Dena Council Justice Program assists with the healing plans and monitoring of young offenders under the supervision of the Youth Probation office of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Additional services for youth include: extrajudicial sanctions and extrajudicial measures, restorative justice circles, healing circles, community work service.
DDCJP - Criminal Courts Support
The Indigenous Justice Worker helps clients navigate the criminal courts and law, including assistance with criminal court applications and referrals to the appropriate agencies. We help individuals understand the process of the criminal justice system and court orders. We hold healing circles, and promote cultural awareness, prevention awareness and interventions. Upon request, the Justice Worker can provide Gladue information to the Courts.
